Door glasses or movable side windows come in two different types of glass. There are tempered door glasses as well as laminated. The difference between the two comes down to a plastic layer that is between the two layers in a laminated door glass which is very similar to the middle plastic layer on a windshield and how the two different glasses break.

When dealing with a tempered door glass there is no protective layer to keep the glass from shattering into a ton of pieces after it is damaged. The plastic layer on a laminated door glass helps to reduce noise and keep your glass in one piece if broken. Your glass will continue to crack wherever it is hit, however, it will never shatter due to that plastic in the middle connecting the two outside layers.

When replacing a door glass our technicians must remove the door panel to reach the screws inside and clean up any glass that has fallen to the bottom of the door. Any glass that is on the floor, seats, or within a reachable distance will be cleaned up and removed prior to returning your vehicle.
